On Thursday we took a trip to the town of Meissen to see the famous (and expensive!) porcelain factory. We also took a walk around the town, which was very beautiful.

Gestational Diabetes

Pregnancy is not easy. I envy those who "loved" being pregnant and those who tell me, "just enjoy it." I have enjoyed maybe 2 weeks of this entire process (I'm at 32 weeks now). Thanks to Kaiser and their preventative medicine, I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes (GD) at 15 weeks. Just when I finally stopped feeling nauseous all the time and wanted to eat again, I had to completely change my diet. 25 weeks is a LONG time to be on the "Diabetes Diet" when you're pregnant and already limited in what you can (should) eat. By week 30, I was starting on 6 units of insulin at night before bedtime. I felt like a complete failure. Even though I know it was my body that failed me and there was nothing I could do about it, it was still awful. Yuki Matsuri Day 1 Sapporo 02.06.14

Mom and I arrived in Sapporo last night. We had a layover in Tokyo where they told us it was possible we wouldn't be able to land in Sapporo due to poor weather/snowy conditions. I'm so glad we had a smooth landing! By the time we arrived at the Sapporo train station there was a nice snow falling. Our hotel is only a block from the station, but we didn't realize it was so close, so we took a taxi. I was stoked to find out we could have wi-fi in our room for free! (Japan still isn't a wi-fi friendly country, so I wasn't expecting to be online for a few days). It also appears that there is free wifi around Odori Park. But it's so cold I can barely take pictures with my gloves on, let alone try to text! This morning wept on all our layers and headed over to Odori Park. Our hotel is 3 blocks from the park. Keto Diet

JP and I have been doing the Keto diet for about 2.5 months. In that time, I lost 9lbs (my goal was 6) and JP lost 12! My pants are so loose now! I run faster, lift heavier weights, and we generally felt great. We’ve been eating a bunch of carbs over the wedding weekend and it makes me feel like crap! I really like this website, and referred back to it a lot in the beginning: https://www.ruled.me/guide-keto-diet/ I also used the My Fitness Pal App to input foods I like to eat to see how much carbs they had. My goal was to limit my carbs to 20-30 per day. In the beginning my hunger swings were crazy. And it’s nearly impossible to go to a store (even Whole Foods!) to get Keto friendly snacks. So, I learned to pack more food than I thought I needed. After a week though I evened out and generally ate the same amount of food each day.
