Bicycle Fail

BICYCLE FAIL

We arrived at the University today around noon. We were supposed to meet the lady in charge of us/ the program, to talk to us about the logistics and give us bicycles to use while we are here. The University is on the outskirts of the city, so walking really isn’t an option. She was too busy with a meeting to meet us, so we asked for just the bicycles for this afternoon. There are 4 of us. She offers 2 bicycles. Umm, just 2? Alrighty, then she asks if 3 are okay? She’ll give 2 this afternoon and then 1 tomorrow morning. BICYCLE FAIL! Finally, after several text messages, we will get 4 bicycles tomorrow morning. As for this afternoon, taxi it is!

Big C

We needed “supplies” for the next 5 weeks, stuff like toilet paper, laundry detergent, some toiletries, so Ai took us to “Big C”- what I now would like to call Wal Mart on crack! I hope I never have to go back there again (well, maybe just once more to photo document the madness). Things were incredibly cheap. $1 for colgate toothpaste?! Why don’t we have those prices in the US? At 8pm, the place was packed with eager shoppers, with lots of noise and shining lights. A lot of the items and set up reminded me of my days in the Czech Republic (because of the socialist influence, perhaps?). We waited in line for quite a while, and several people attempted to cut in front of us (some were successful). Apparently there is no such thing as waiting in line in Vietnam. Oh, yay! I’ll have to perfect my pushing and elbowing skills.
