An called us in the evening to see if we wanted to go check out a Vietnamese “gay show”. She’d mentioned something about it before, and I was very intrigued. Being gay is not yet very socially acceptable, especially here in conservative Hue, and it’s not talked about. An took Laura and I to the small carnival going on near her village. I felt like we were the freak show; apparently most of these people have never seen foreigners, because everyone was openly gawking at us. Several guys tried to grab Laura and I’s hands- An slapped them away and yelled at them.
We sat down for the drag show, and out came these tall, skinny, beautiful- men! I’ve seen men in drag before, but somehow, this was different. Their singing and dancing was awful! LOL. It started raining, so we left shortly after.
