Happy Birthday to my dad and new friend, Sophie!
The beaches along Cartagena aren't very nice, so most people take a boat out to the famous Playa Blanca, which is on an island about 1.5hours away. Anna and I thought we'd gotten a good deal with our ticket, be we'd been some what scammed. Instead of being on a direct boat to Playa Blanca, we were first taken out 2.5 hrs to the archipelago Islas del Rosarios and forced to get off on a tourist trap island. The water and small islands were beautiful, however. After an hour on the island, we went back in the same direction for an hour. There was lots of entertainment and practically a dance party going on, on the ferry. Not to mention booze, lots of booze- these Colombians sure know how to party!

We finally arrived at Playa Blanca at 2pm (we'd left at 8:30am!), which meant we only had 2 hours at the beach. 2 hours turned out to be more than enough time. We couldn't get more than a minute of peace and quite. Someone was always trying to sell us something and women's were constantly trying to give us massages. So much for a relaxing beach day! It's disappointing, because it really is a nice beach and beautiful water, but the peddlers really ruin it.

I went in the ocean and it was as warm as bath water. I've never been in such warm water! While I was swimming around a Colombian family started talking to me. It was fun to have a very broken English/Spanish conversation.

While Anna was laying on the beach, a girl walked by and asked her if she spoke English. I think it was destiny for us to meet Sophie that day. We were the only 3 white girls on the beach! It turned out to be Sophie's birthday, so we got some beers and watched the sunset from the city wall in Cartagena.
