Yuki Matsuri Day 2 Tsudome 02.07.14

February 7, 2014

It snowed on and off ALL DAY today.
This morning we went to the Tsudomu Site of the Yuki Matsuri. It's about a 40 minute bus ride from Sapporo station. The Tsudomu site is mostly outdoors, with different winter activities. There are also different things inside the large dome. When we got to the site, it was just snowing a little so we got in line to go on the tube slide. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was free (sponsored by cup of noodles). By the time it was our turn it was snowing hard and the wind was blowing. It was a painfully fun slide down. Probably more pain than anything! I just wanted to go in the dome after that to warm up and get the snow off me. We walked around the dome, which was fairly empty, but I'm sure it will be packed with families on the weekend. When the snow was lighter we paid 500 yen each to go on the snow raft- a raft pulled by a snowmobile around a track. It was really fun! We then went on the tube side again and it was a lot more enjoyable. I was finally able to take out my nice camera for a few shots before it started to snow again. There were some small snow statues and some statues you could walk on/ in. Once the snow started coming down we knew it was time to head back to the hotel.
We spent the afternoon in the hotel, and then went back to the train station shopping area for dinner and shopping. We had planned on going to see the Odori Park statues at night, but decided against it since it never stopped snowing for more than 15 minutes at a time.
